NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia Preview

NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon vs. Shayna Baszler

NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon will face a very difficult challenge at TakeOver: Philadelphia when she puts her coveted title on the line against menacing newcomer Shayna Baszler.

The Queen of Spades stormed onto the scene at NXT just a few weeks ago, ambushing Kairi Sane from behind as she engaged in a staredown with Moon and putting The Pirate Princess to sleep with a ruthless Kirifuda Clutch.

The renowned member of MMA’s Four Horsewomen — who fought her way to the Finals of the inaugural Mae Young Classic last year before losing to Sane — then proceeded to bully her way around the WWE Performance Center on numerous occasions before destroying Dakota Kai in Baszler’s NXT debut match.

The destructive former UFC fighter continued to do whatever she wanted on the Jan. 17 episode of NXT, attacking Aliyah in the ring and prompting NXT’s War Goddess to make the save. With Moon wanting a match against the terrorizing Baszler and the destructive Superstar demanding that the contest be for Moon’s title, General Manager William Regal made the bout official.

For Moon, this is her first TakeOver event as NXT Women’s Champion after winning the previously vacant title in a Fatal 4-Way Match at TakeOver: WarGames. After spending most of 2017 scratching and clawing her way to the top of the NXT Women’s division, the laser-focused champion has made it clear that she is determined to hold onto the prized title for a very long time.

The NXT Women’s Champion certainly is doing the noble thing, standing up to the bullying Baszler, but will she regret picking a fight with such a ruthless submission specialist? Or, will the honorable Moon be able to stand up to her intimidating challenger and introduce her to the devastating Eclipse?

Watch Ember Moon clash with Shayna Baszler in a monumental NXT Women’s Championship Match on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 ET/5 PT on the award-winning WWE Network.

NXT Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Ember Moon

NXT Women’s Champion Asuka is not only faced by a worthy challenger at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, but one that could spell the end of her historic title reign and undefeated streak. On Saturday, Aug. 19, at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Ember Moon will challenge The Empress of Tomorrow for the NXT Women’s Title in a highly anticipated rematch.

It’s hard to bet against Asuka, who has thwarted every opponent thrown her way since arriving in NXT in 2015. However, there is one competitor who had her on the brink of defeat during their first encounter at TakeOver: Orlando in April. The supremely talented Moon was mere moments away from nailing Asuka with her devastating Eclipse finisher during the match, only for the champion to shove the referee into the ropes and claim victory once again.

The debate continues as to whether Asuka, perhaps fearful that getting hit with Moon’s Eclipse would spell the end of her historic title reign, pushed the referee on purpose. Either way, Moon will get another opportunity to try to hit her acclaimed Eclipse finishing move and end the Empress’ title reign.

It hasn’t been easy for Moon to get back to this point, having been sidelined for more than a month after Asuka, of all people, threw her through the ropes to the floor, injuring Moon’s shoulder and keeping her out of TakeOver: Chicago.

Moon has since returned with a vengeance, looking more determined than ever to capture the NXT Women’s Championship. As for the titleholder, she went on a brief hiatus following her epic title defense against Nikki Cross in a vicious Last Woman Standing Match. The champion made it clear that she wasn’t going to return until a challenger worthy of her time stepped up.

That challenger has since come forward, and her name is Ember Moon. Can Moon do what no other woman has been able to and take the title away from Asuka? Or will the NXT Women’s Champion continue her unprecedented title reign?

Find out on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 8 ET/5 PT, when NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III streams live on the award-winning WWE Network.

NXT TakeOver: Orlando Preview

NXT Women’s Champion Asuka vs. Ember Moon

History will be made at NXT TakeOver: Orlando on April 1 when two undefeated competitors collide for the NXT Women’s Championship, as Asuka defends her title against Ember Moon.

Since her arrival in NXT in October 2015, Asuka has been an unstoppable force. The Empress of Tomorrow has bulldozed over the competition with ease, stunning the NXT Universe last April at TakeOver: Dallas when she made Bayley pass out in the Asuka Lock to capture the championship.

After winning a rematch against Bayley in Brooklyn last August, Asuka has been begging for competition, and she has stood victorious whether she was facing the returning Mickie James or three of NXT’s top female Superstars at the same time.

Ember Moon has been on a similar path as The Empress of Tomorrow since her NXT debut last August.

With a stoic, intimidating demeanor, The War Goddess has steamrolled everyone in her path. Moon earned her championship opportunity after impressing NXT General Manager William Regal with an emphatic victory over Billie Kay on the March 8 edition of NXT. After learning of her impending showdown with Asuka, Moon declared that NXT will enter a new phase on April 1.

Though Asuka can be incredibly dominant when the bell rings, Moon has a secret weapon: The devastating Eclipse. No Superstar has gotten up from the brutal maneuver. Kay was left motionless in the ring for several minutes after falling to Moon, and NXT commentator Nigel McGuinness has noted that he’s seen several trainees leave the WWE Performance Center on stretchers after taking The War Goddess’ signature move. If Moon can connect with the Eclipse on Asuka, she may make good on her promise.

Who will suffer their first loss inside an NXT ring? Who will leave with the NXT Women’s Championship? Find out at NXT TakeOver: Orlando, live Saturday, April 1 at 8 ET/5 PT, only on the award-winning WWE Network!
