NXT Women’s Championship Match
Ember Moon vs. Sonya Deville

Things start quick as the women lock up, and Sonya takes the champ down with a waist lock. Exchange of holds leads to Deville nearly getting an ankle lock before Ember gets away. They lock up again and Ember has a headlock, whipped to the ropes and Ember hits an arm drag on Sonya. Sonya gets a waist lock but Ember escapes, missing a kick as Sonya goes on the offensive now. We’re at a standstill as Sonya looks for a test of strength, but suckers Sonya with a kick instead. Ember is whipped on the ropes but hits a dropkick on Sonya, who rolls out of the ring for a breather. Ember goes to the apron, hitting a cannonball dive on Sonya as we go to break.

Back from break, Sonya is in control now with a knee to the face of Ember for a nearfall. Sonya stays in control with a waist lock, but Ember gets to her feet…only for Sonya to slam her down for a nearfall. Sonya taunts the champ as she stays on the attack, wearing her down with a bearhug on the canvas. Ember slowly gets to her feet, and hits a quesadora that drives Sonya’s face into the bottom turnbuckle. Sonya manages to get to her feet first, but Ember catches her with a suplex and a kick punch combo for a nearfall. Ember charges at Sonya, who stops her with a kick and a knee off the bottom rope for a nearfall. Both women are on their feet again, and Ember hits a springboard dropkick on Sonya. Ember charges at Sonya with a forearm, before climbing up top to hit an Eclipse on Sonya for the win.

Winner: Ember Moon

Ember celebrates in the ring as we get replays from the match. Suddenly, Kairi Sane’s music hits as she makes her way to the stage to indicate her interest in the title. Ember nods as though in agreement, when suddenly Shayna Baszler sneaks up behind Sane with a rear naked choke that knocks Sane out. Officials come out to break up the fracas, as Baszler stands tall over Sane before turning her attention to Ember Moon. She walks off, leaving the officials to check on Sane.

Later on, Christy St. Cloud catches up with Ember Moon, who talks about the target on her back from winning the NXT Women’s Championship. It doesn’t matter if it’s Kairi or Shayna Baszler, if they want to make a statement, they need to step into the ring next time.

NXT holiday flashback

NXT holiday flashback

It’s that time of the year again. For some, the holiday season is about the anticipation of gifts; for others, it’s about quality time with loved ones. Most importantly, it’s an opportunity to create memories that can last a lifetime. This week, several NXT Superstars grab a seat in the proverbial time machine and recount some of their most beloved holiday memories.

“I remember one Christmas, my parents bought my brother and I new bikes. I was so excited because not only was the bicycle my favorite color, purple, but it was also my first bike without training wheels. So, my brother and I tried to get on the bikes to pose for a picture, but we were super off-balance because the seats hadn’t been adjusted. We both ended up falling into the Christmas tree, and the picture we were trying to pose for was actually on the video setting. So now I have a constant reminder of the incident, but it always brings a good laugh to the room when we play it.” — NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon

#6 Asuka vs. Ember Moon — NXT Women’s Championship Match (NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III)

This match was arguably the closest Asuka came to losing her coveted title during her 523-day reign as NXT Women’s Champion. One of the most underrated moments in wrestling in all of 2017 was when Ember Moon hit her spectacular Eclipse finishing move on the undefeated Asuka, only to have The Empress of Tomorrow shockingly kick out. It was awesome, and it was must-see. — SCOTT TAYLOR

Ember Moon vs. Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay

Both women lock up, and Peyton hits a knee right to the midsection as she gets the advantage. Ember fights back, hitting a spinning heel kick and landing a head scissors takedown that sends Royce out of the ring. Ember climbs up top, diving onto both Royce and Kay. The champ brings Royce back into the ring, but is stopped by Kay which gives Royce a chance to lock Ember up in the Tarantula as we go to break.

Back from break, Royce is still in control before Ember takes her down, hitting a spinning back kick and an enziguri for a nearfall. Ember picks Royce up, but Royce rolls her up for a nearfall. Double underhook by Ember, but Royce gets out and hits a back elbow, forearm, and back kick for a nearfall. Royce goes for her fisherman suplex but Ember blocks it, only to be taken to the corner by Royce who hits right hands on the back of the champ. Cross acts crazy before setting her eyes on the Women’s Championship, and then the champ. Cross stares at the title again before running the ropes, leaving us with the champ holding her title.

The tale of a new champion: How the NXT Women’s Title justified Ember Moon’s struggle

Self-doubt, worry and frustration are all emotions that have found residence in the mind of Ember Moon. Yet, as ordinary as those feelings had become for her, NXT TakeOver: WarGames delivered a brand-new shipment of emotions: Joy, relief and euphoria, all courtesy of a dream come true, Ember Moon capturing the NXT Women’s Championship.

“I’ve been super-ecstatic ever since I won the championship. I worked so hard to get this, and right now I feel like the sky is the limit,” Moon told WWE.com.

Moon has had a few weeks to settle into her new role as NXT Women’s Champion. Following a recent NXT Live Event in Bel Air, Md., NXT’s War Goddess took time to reflect on the fateful night that changed her career.

“As soon as I won the title, I remember having to do an interview right away,” she recalled. “By the time I got to locker room, it was completely empty. I put the title down, I put my armor down and I just stared at the both of them.

“I just said to myself, ‘I finally did it.’ I finally solidified every decision that I made in my career and justified them,” Moon added. “I just took a moment to step out of the craziness and live in that moment of happiness.”

In true storybook fashion, Moon’s mother, father, fiancé, niece and nephew were all in attendance at the Toyota Center to witness Moon’s crowning achievement. And to make things even sweeter, the crowning moment took place in her home state of Texas. Continue reading
